Even after 6 years here in Japan I cannot bring myself to waste time with email niceties. I spend half my time undertsaning the pointless preamble in most business communications only to realize there was nothing in the emial/fax/letter/sms that I needed anyway.

For example: My company supplied 3G moden doesn’t work with my Macbook running OSX10.7
I contacted support with the following details entered into their on-line system.

Basically I want to know the OSX10.7 situation with the HX0041IN 3G modem. 15 seconds work.

Even after all that they still haven’t told me anything as to when I can use the damn 3G modem on my Macbook but they told me “the nothing” very politely. I just can’t do it, It must have taken the person 30 minutes to type, check, think about not making me upset and ensuring correct poite Japanese. I see people do this every day in my office, it takes them hours to do email that should take minutes.
This is something that will bug me to my dying day. Maybe people don’t like my “To the Point” style and may even get offended. Well so be it…
