Anyway, the photo is of a “Narrow” tunnel on the South Channel Fort in Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne, Australia… which happens to be my home town.

The width of the tunnel was no wider than my shoulders and I had to crouch to avoid hitting my head.

The South Channel Fort is a reminder of Port Phillip Bay’s early history as part of the defense lines for Melbourne. The artificial island was constructed in the 1880s to illuminate the channel at night and electronically explode mines under attacking ships coming through the Heads. A system of antiquated gun emplacements and tunnels are a feature of the island which is now a significant refuge for seabirds. Work began on south Channel fort in 1878 with the laying of about 14,000 bluestone rocks. The man made island upon which the fort is built is one of only two islands in the bay.
