I’m always on the lookout for new systems to apply to personal websites and I found a new Internet advertising system called Project Wonderful. It distinguishes itself by claiming to stamp out click fraud, and is based on people bidding for a spot on your site. From the outset I was intrigued by the concept of people being able to bid against each other and see what the market thinks it should cost to advertise on my web site.
After signing up and being approved, I proceeded to place 3 different styles of advertising on my site, a 466×60 banner at the top of the latest post which I would call the prime position, a single 125×125 box at the top of my side bar, which would be the prime 125×125 spot, and a strip of 4 125×125 boxes lower down in the side bar which I would assume would attract a lower advertising price.
The way the system works for advertisers is when you’ve found an site you want to advertise on you “Place a bid”. You’ll be asked for information like what your maximum bid is and how much you want to spend in total. When you’re satisfied with what you’ve entered, click “submit”, and your bid will be placed. That’s it! If you’re lucky, you’ll be the high bidder and your ad will be displayed!
The way the system works for a publisher is that you basically set a minimum advertising price and wait for people to start bidding on your available spots. Pretty damn easy. There is a lot more too it if you really want to dig deep but for me minimum fuss is the key.
As far a setting the price for advertising I elected to have a minimum bid of $0.00, thats right you can get the chance to advertise on a PR2 site with around 400 unique visitors a day for $0.00… well, it’s currently running at a few cents but I have had many ads displayed for $0.00. I choose a $0.00 minimum, because unlike a lot of people who think they can demand crazy prices for ads on some pretty average sites, I will let my market decide what they want to pay, if they don’t get value then I don’t get a cent…
So head over to Project Wonderful and see if you can get some free advertising, if only for a short time…you will be surprised at who is publishing and advertising there…

I think wait time to be approved/rejected to ad publisher status is relative. It’s been a few days and I haven’t been approved yet. How long did it take for you to be approved, Paul?
Hey Evilwoobie, I was approved in 1 day, and then after about 12 hours the bids really started to come on strong. While it’s not a lot of money, I get a real kick out of seeing new banners and logos at least 3 times a day. Now it’s up to me to drive punters to my advertisers pages 
How serious are you about making money online, Paul, or is it more of a curiosity than anything else?
I did get 2 offers for link placements and a paid review but it wasn’t worth it for me credibility wise. Actually, I can be bought, I just ain’t cheap
But what the heck, I might give PW a try.
I’m actually not that serious, for me it is fun so I keep doing it. I think if I made enough to cover hosting I would be happy.

and explore a couple of pages, you will see a familiar face, but a bit more hair , plus a couple of others that are developing a community. Again, keeping it fun.
Looking at my prime 125×125 grow in value compared to the banner is the kind of thing I am exploring at the moment.

BTW, I’ve been reading bloggerunleashed.com. Have you heard of it going around the MMO niche? It’s much better than the standard A-list blogs but the style takes some getting used to.
I like what he says about the local niche markets and the link farms. Might be another little side project to play with 
Hey Mariam, I know a little Japanese but still learning all the time. I have seen blogger unleashed but I don’t want to risk my Page rank etc by trying to squeeze a few cents out of my blog. I do it for enjoyment more than anything. Re: MMO A-listers, I hardly every read their blogs, in fact the only reason I had a feeds page was to glance at their latest stuff, but I removed it as it is a cyclic load of crap generally.
i like to know about japan from a man who is in process of knowing it rather then a old resident japanese craper.
