This weeks Photo Hunt theme is High. I took this photo from the observation level of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎, Tōkyō Tochōsha). The photo is looking in the direction of my apartment, as you can see I was up pretty high.
The Metropolitan Buildings consist of three main buildings:
Tokyo Metropolitan Main Building No.1:
243 meters (797 ft) high with forty-eight stories above and three stories below ground.
Tokyo Metropolitan Main Building No.2:
163 meters (535 ft) high with thirty-four stories above and three stories below ground.
Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Building:
41 meters (135 ft) high with seven stories above and one story below ground.
Located in Shinjuku, it held title of the tallest building (by roof height) in Tokyo, at 243 meters (799 feet), from 1991 until late 2006, when it surrendered its title upon the completion of Midtown Tower. The two top-floor panoramic observation decks are free of charge to the public and contain many gift shops. They are open till 11 pm on weekdays. Use of cameras is permitted, but tripods are forbidden.
