Mac AirToday I awoke to find a nice new laptop on the Apple home page… The “Mac Air”. Boasted as the thinest laptop in the world I am very pleased to hear words like that as it means compromise ….compromise… compromise…. and my current Macbook is not outdated just yet.

Tech. Specs. Include Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB on-chip shared L2 cache running at full processor speed, 800MHz front side bus, 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM on board(read Maximum 2GB… ouch), 1.6 Ghz CPU(option for 1.8ghz), 80gig 4200 HDD(read sloooow) or optional 60gig SSD(read blindingly fast), big keyboard, 5hours run time.. and all the usual Mac holes and bits……

While it does look super sexy and is the latest kid on the block I am glad it is lacking a bunch of stuff I would need, i.e. inbuilt dvd drive, 4gig ram, fast processor….. although this would be a very suitable laptop for the traveling worker who only does email and the odd presentation.

For the hefty price of $1800 USD to $3100 USD I think it will be an exclusive club who rushes out to purchase one of these bad boys…
There is some other good news for my fellow iPod Touch owners, you now have the ability for some of the iPhone goodies to be installed legally, although at $19.99 USD, I think I will stay Jailbroken for now.

  1. I’m not impressed and it seems as though investors aren’t either. Apple has gone down for 2 straight days. What’s up with Steve trying to squeeze blood from a stone for an extra $20?

I might have to go ahead and jailbreak mine.

So what do you have on your touch, Paul?

  2. Hey Mariam, totally agree… no blood left afetr taxes ;-)

I currently have the following programs installed:

    Mail
    WeDict(for Japanese/English)
    EvolutionRGB
    iGo
    iSlots
    Stocks
    Converter
    Stumbler
    HP-11c (CALC)
    Chess
    Mines
    SSH
    Maps
    PDF Viewer
    Tetromino
Accelerlog (I live in Tokyo, earthquake measuring for the poor man)
    Updated Calendar

and a bunch of music, videos

  3. that new laptop is so thin. I would be afraid to use it incase it snapped in half :P
