About 3 weeks ago I tried a little experiment with my blog. I wanted to see if I could increase the average amount of page views per visitor. Up until the end of February, according to Google Analytics, I was running at around 1.6 - 2.2 page views per visitor.
After my little experiment I was able to increase this to 4.0 - 6.5 pages per visit.
How did I do this? Well I analyzed some of my best keyword hits to my site, I then tailored a post to increase the pages that the visitors would want to visit. The post was targeted at people searching for Cherry Blossom Tattoos, give the masses something they want, not what you think they want… that makes sense I guess…
Basically all I did was create a basic photo gallery inside the post. This particular photo gallery was full of Cherry Blossom Tattoos, which is what people are searching for on the web every day. In fact I also buried this post very quickly into the archives as I had already written a couple of posts on Cherry Blossoms in Japan and I didn’t want it to appear I was whoring my site to the Cherry Blossom Gods.
Needless to say it has work, it”s very basic to setup, and has resulted in much better numbers as far as time visitors spend on my site.

Helpful post. Good job, paul! I’d better get to work increasing pageviews too. But it’s going to take some time as I have only started to understand what the ‘goals’ are for in my analytics account. XD
tc.
If you are using Wordpress for this blog, I would also recommend the use of the module “Simple Tags” to generate automaticly “related articles” at the end of a post. It did work well for me.
