That seems to be the regularity at which I can be bothered updating this blog. So with a few minutes to spare between Jobs I thought I would imortalize my recent year or so events in digital stone.

Life goes on as usual for most if you don't look and reflect on how remarkable our life events really are. Having been through the 3/11 earthqauke and subsequent nuclear disaster it makes you want to savor every precious day. While not as bad in Tokyo as the media made it out to be the damage in Fukashima is nothing short of devastating, it's like the mythical 2012.12.21 came a little early for that part of Japan

That seems to be the regularity at which I can be bothered updating this blog. So with a few minutes to spare between Jobs I thought I would immortalize my recent year or so events in digital stone.

Life goes on as usual for most if you don’t look and reflect on how remarkable our life events really are. Having been through the 3/11 earthquake and subsequent nuclear disaster it makes you want to savor every precious day. While not as bad in Tokyo as the media made it out to be the damage in Fukashima is nothing short of devastating, it’s like the mythical 2012.12.21 came a little early for that part of Japan.

To start about me I’m still working about 100 hours a week but all towards an end goal.

Making new friends and seeing old friends heading onto bigger things either in Japan, Asia, Asean or in their home countries. It’s great to see people succeed at their life choices.

Travel has been kind to me with time spent in Europe, North America, out and about in Japan, with plans to head to Yellow Knife to get the aurora borealis ticked off and a visit to Machu Picchu with a lazy stopover on an island with crystal blue waters and drinks by the surf. Planned trip to Bangkok in late January with a snowboard trip in early February to famed Niseko with friends.

I had the privalidge to give a speach at a good friends wedding which allowed me the opportunity to write my first real Haikyu, Japanese and English with the same meanings for all words. Congrats to the couple, and no doubt will be seeing you for our weekly wine session.

On the tech front all the usual upgrades have taken place but feel I have reached my tech saturation point and will lay off the gadgets for a few months.

This year I re-ignited one of my childhood hobbies I shared with my Dad, Astronomy. With the purchase of a serious bit of gear and a couple of cameras and CCD imagers I have been sucked into the astrophotography black-hole and have been loving every minute of it. Dragged my equipment to Yatsugatake a few times for dark skies, however with technique and patience I can be just as effective in Tokyo.

With a couple of very brief exceptions, day to day life is fantastic and waking up smiling and supporting others is my key to happy living and moving forwards with great things. I have been asked to be interviewed by a well renowed Author/columnist which I will do in the new year so I guess my formula has had in impact in a very positive way on the person and the people I meet through them. (pats self on back)

As far as any negatives go it’s probably the inordinate amount of hours I work that stops me from doing more in the community, i.e. volunteering at Fukashima, however I do contribute in the ways I can from Tokyo.

This Christmas and subsequent Christmas dinner will be in Tokyo with a trip in the first week of January to west Japan. Plenty of Snow, Sake and Sirloin.

Time to head out now, if you got this far thanks, hope you all have a lovely Christmas and 2013. Stick to your plans, follow your dreams, don’t waiver, be good to people. Ignore the negative, maximize the positive. Remember if you don’t like something then don’t do it.

Catch you all next year as long as the 2012.12.21 doesn’t end up reality. Imagine if it did! Could you look in the mirror and say I lived my life and achieved my goals according to my plans? I will galdy burn, drown, freeze, explode or whatever safe in the fact that I can say yes.

Shinjuku Station - busiest train station in the world with ~4,000,000 people a day throughput... but they will randomly stand in the human traffic areas

Any new shop opening day - really? 2hours+ just to get in? Krispy Kreme's, Mont Bell, Yamada Denki etc. aren't that exciting

If there is one thing that really does get to me in Japan it’s the amazing ability of the locals to be completely motionless in the most inappropriate places, and being christmas/new years period the problem is 100x worse hence the rant.

My List includes but not limited to:

Entry/Exit of the train ticket gates – usually fumbling for the ticket they had at least 5 minutes to fucking find.

Cash register – you mean I have to pay for this shit, fuck, maybe you should have prepared for that

Inside Doorways of trains – exactly dead center even though their stop is 15 stops away – my favorite lesson I teach, bump…

Reserved seat phenomenon – Despite having a reserved seat ticket they will line up thus blocking all through traffic, the mind boggles.

Shinjuku Station – busiest train station in the world with ~4,000,000 people a day throughput… but they will randomly stand in the human traffic areas

Any new shop opening day – really? 2hours+ just to get in? Krispy Kreme’s, Mont Bell, Yamada Denki etc. aren’t that exciting

Shrine on new years day – queue snakes back to the south pole

Christmas Illumination – She better be worth it

These can be minor to extreme annoyances but the one thing that makes me lose it, and more often than not force me into loud obscenities to a pushing through regardless of ramifications, are the complete assholes that push in front of you as you go to enter/exit through the train ticket gate only to see a red (I don’t have correct fare or credit) light on the touch pad/ticket slot indicting they are complete morons… well done genius now get ready for the wrath.

Happy Christmas

If there is one thing that disgusts me on a daily basis is the people brushing their teeth in the mens room. I work in a fairly multicultural enviroment so I get to see all kinds of unhygenic behavior with the most obvious being the lack of hand washing/soap using after dropping the kids off at the pool. Some of the sounds heard and smells on an early morning are disturbing to say the least and in any other enviroment I would expect to grant maternity leave for the obvious bundle dropped. With that being said you can just imagine the invisble nasties crawling over the whole area... am I the only one who sees this? obviously I am. So when said members whip out a tooth brush to try and clean up their act a little I just want to puke. I can't even stand to watch.

Another asshole on the train yesterday. 5pm, Yamanote line, it's not like anybody wanted to sit down. I also witnessed 3 young Japanese asshole kids drop their garbage under the train seat, well the one trying to be cool did. He was the ugly one so he was obviously compensating by being the biggest prick and enjoying the privalidge of empty seats either side as no normal person would want to sit next to that attitude. Unfortunately no photo of these punks.
