Yesterday I was approached by one of my Japanese co-workers to explain the word Dude. Gisteren werd ik benaderd door een van mijn Japanse collega's aan het woord Dude verklaren. I was thinking to myself, where the hell did he pick that up from, and surely his pocket translator can translate it effectively… well this is where it all gets complicated. Ik dacht bij mezelf, waar de hel heeft hij dat maximaal uit te halen, en zeker zijn zak vertaler effectief kan vertalen ... en dit is waar het allemaal wordt ingewikkeld. Somebody had shown him the two Iemand had hem de twee Budlight Budlight Dude commercials. Dude commercials.

Now do you understand?.. Nu begrijp je? .. Dude is actually a very universal word and there is no way it can translate into a single Japanese word. Dude is eigenlijk een zeer universeel woord en er is geen manier kan vertalen in een Japans woord.
The closest is probably おい、おいおい or おいちょと… even then it's a stretch. De dichtstbijzijnde is waarschijnlijkおい,おいおいofおいちょと... zelfs dan is het een stuk.
