My dad works in San Francisco and I've heard him say that older people that don't drive or those who leave the city for will rent out their driveways monthly to day use. It's just a little more income. An yes, they charge hundreds of dollars and they don't even get the right to leave it in a spot overnight! It’s not that unusual to pay like that for parking.
