Time to cut Entrecard loose. Why? Basically the traffic I got was mostly junk click throughs, 90% bounce rate etc…. Not interested by that traffic so I will simplify my daily routine by removing Entrecard and to be quite frank I have much better things to do than nurse a traffic generation system that actually doesn’t enhance my life, get me hard or make me laugh, so time to cut it loose. The only people who will benifit will be Graham, the rest will continiue to believe they will actually benifit from it. When I say benifit, I don’t mean a better Alexa ranking, I mean that their lives will be enriched by being an Entrecard member, I guess I just have different Ideals than others.

  1. Thanks for the shot of Monday honesty Paul, it has made my day! Agree with all you say, a great majority of the traffic flies by on their way to picking up a much sought after “E.C” and know little about your blog.

  2. and hence the never ending discussions about putting the EC widget close to the top of your blog so people can find it easily(read easy to click and back out without reading your page). That kind of mentality is not who I am, and refuse to be a part of it.

  3. Hey Paul,

Deep down, there’s a reasoning in most of the things I do. ;)

I think it’s just pick and choose. For those who bang 300 cards a day, all the credits to them. I pick and choose who to bait.

I still promote the sponsors heavily each week and it is an effort but the connotation is that I’m open to legit sponsorship and I’ve gotten feedback.

Let’s see how it pans out as I’ve countered offered…

  4. Ha ha – Paul I actualy came here to drop a card (clicked ur widget @-NDDC) and find your bye bye EC post. Its really ture, EC taking the blogshpares by stroam. This bring an opportunity to feature myself on one of my favourite site. If everything will be alright i will appear on EC widget of John Chow on 17th Jan, it was almost impossible the other way ($$). Hope one day you will also fed up with your craze of showing more then 100 recent readers of Mybloglog. My internet Connection speed is slow this time and it is loading your recent readers Avatars from last 15 Min.

  5. sorry about the avatars Shankar, I will try to put it in a frame so it wont slow the whole site down for you. I still get 3-5 second load times so your connection must be 14.4k modem speed ;-)

  6. :-) nice!!! its actually 256 Kbps. Paul do one thing ….delete cookies and clear history from the system, try open the site again….see the speed difference in loading page. Anyway your theme is pro and beautiful..nice job you are doing.

  7. I sympathise. As I am not into blogging to make $, I question the value of Entrecard. I’ll persist a little longer and then re-evaluate. I have friends who I think rely on it. So, for now I’ll play the game. However, your post is spot on. I’ll still come and see you even without EC!

  8. my view is really simple… It doesn’t take up that much room – but it brings me traffic. so i’m keeping it.

  9. I am testing EC and I too notice a high bounce rate but I have received a few RSS subscriptions.

At this point I don’t see it as a long-term viable solution though I did find this blog somehow while searching for good blogs to add to my daily RSS read.

Too many people are trying to rack up credits just like a traffic exchange system so the reward vs. the work is probably not worth it.

  10. YES YES YES!

I was first to post about how bad entrecard sucks, and no one believed me, now more and more blogs are getting off the entrecard bandwagon!

    Yes!

  11. Calm down, Sir Jorge – it sounds more like you’ve been ignored your whole life and are happy to get a little attention. The fact that some find Entrecard not to their liking doesn’t mean it sucks. Besides, nipping at others heels is unseemly.

Neil, maybe you didn’t work it hard enough – or stay in long enough. There were probably under 1000 when you joined and now there’s somewhere over 2,000… and maybe your target audience is not the kind that would use Entrecard, BUT… that doesn’t mean they won’t get there eventually. After all, not all Japan-related bloggers are heading for what you think of as greener pastures.

Some are staying… and you’ll miss sharing in the benefits with them.

  12. Thanks for the comment Sam, as you know I do like you and your approach to entrecard. It’s just that working so hard for little return is just a waste of my time, and my decision is being re-enforced by others everyday now it seems. Please explain the tangible benefits of entrecard, not increased RSS, not better Alexa… real benefits??? oh I made a new little friend today…hahaha….. so much for your controversial blog, you should change the name to “Sam Freedoms entrecard ass kissing blog” ;->
But we can still be friends……

  13. I think Entrecard might not be as suitable for developed blogs with dedicated readers already as it is for a new blog, fresh on the market. That’s just my two cents though – I very recently started a blog, so I’m desperate for any traffic I can get (sad, eh?).
