After a week of working the new macbook pretty darn hard, I can say I only had to “Force Close” a program twice, both times related to a website with a bit of nefarious content. As an owner of a Dell M90(hamburger with the lot), sony Vaio UX UMPC,and now a macbook, the mackbook wins by a mile…..now looking forward to the next phase in my mac transition….a 16gig iPhone would be nice…and a hack to go with it. If you keep reading you will get an idea of the ground swell building over the iPhone, all i need is a hack to make them work in Japan… unfortunately thats a brain transplant from GSM to Super 3G…not any time soon I imagine.

Australian sellers of iPhone unlock hacks are bracing themselves for a deluge of orders after Apple cut the iPhone’s price tag by a whopping $US200 ($240).The 8GB and 4GB models now retail for $US399 and $US299, respectively, but the latter will be discontinued once existing stocks sell out.The price drop is expected to infuriate those who paid $US599 for the iPhone around its launch just over two months ago, but it also means lower barriers to entry for Australians looking to import the device from the US.All iPhones are by default locked to US mobile network AT&T, which has an exclusive multi-year rights deal with Apple, but hacks are now freely available to unlock the device for use with any mobile carrier.Apple says it will launch the iPhone in Australia sometime next year. It is likely to be tied to one carrier.Apple, revealing the price cuts on Wednesday during a major announcement of updates to the iPod line, said it expected to sell its 1 millionth iPhone before the end of the month.”We want to put the iPhone in a lot of stockings this holiday season,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs said during Wednesday’s Apple event in San Francisco.
Alex Voevodin, general manager of Votech, the exclusive Australian reseller of the $149 TurboSIM tool that is essential in conducting one of the iPhone unlocking methods, said he expected to receive a record number of emails from prospective TurboSIM buyers.”It would explain the sharp increase in the number of people wanting to join the waiting list in the past 12 hours,” he said.”Perhaps Votech should start importing iPhones?”A 17-year-old boy from Mildura in Victoria who has signed up as a reseller of another iPhone unlock hack, iPhoneSimFree, had similar expectations.
“Now that they’re a lot cheaper a lot more Aussies will see it as a viable option to import one from the states and unlock it,” the boy, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said. The iPhoneSimFree method, a software hack, is considered superior to other iPhone unlocking methods because it involves no hardware tampering and does not require the purchase of special gadgets such as TurboSIM or Super SIM.The boy said he expected to start selling the software hack this week and has been accepting pre-orders on his website, aussieiphoneunlock.com, since Tuesday. He said he had already received about 350 orders and more than 4000 unique visitors to his website.
But Voevodin said he did not believe the iPhoneSimFree hack would lead to the TurboSIM method becoming obsolete. He said Apple might release an iPhone software patch that could reverse the hack.”The comments I have read in multiple forums have people still recommending the Turbo SIM over the software solutions as a more robust and future-proof method less likely to be affected by firmware updates,” he said.
“But if sales slow or even stop - we don’t mind - these past few weeks have been hell trying to keep up with the orders.”Meanwhile, those who paid a premium for an iPhone before the price cuts are entitled to a refund of the difference between the price paid and the current selling price, as long as they made the purchase within the last fortnight.”An original purchase receipt is required, and you must request your refund within 14 calendar days of the price reduction,” Apple’s store return policy states.
