Tattoos of Japanese Cherry Blossoms

Why Cherry Blossom Tattoos

  1. The cherry blossom is very prevalent in classical Japanese tattooing and has a very definite symbolic meaning.
  2. The cherry blossom is also a common symbol in traditional Japanese woodblock art dating back many centuries, and as a consequence is often featured in Japanese tattooing which has drawn artistic inspiration from the woodblock prints for several centuries.

Japanese Plum Blossoms mark the start of Spring in Japan

Japanese Plum BlossomsThe plum is associated with the start of spring, because plum blossoms are some of the first blossoms to open during the year. The Japanese Plum or Ume, (sometimes referred to as Japanese apricot) has played an important role in for many centuries. In the Tokyo area, they typically flower in February and March. The event is celebrated with plum festivals (ume matsuri) in public parks, shrines and temples across Japan.
